The S6 when introduced was almost the same as the S4 which was going out of production

The only change was that the S6 was a new name and it had a new body. The company wanted a sports model in the cars it was selling so it made a few changes in the S4 and began selling it as the S6. The new S6 had a 2.2 liter five cylinder engine, which could achieve 100 kilometers per hour in 6.1 seconds. The vehicle was equipped with a 6 speed manual gears and the Quattro all-wheel drive. The S6 engine was now upgraded to a new V8 engine and the vehicle had an automatic gear system, though optional was the 6 speed manual gear system. In 1997, Audi brought in the S6 plus, which had a 32 valve V8 engine.
